Launched in 2026, the two UBXRIDGE fellowships are an initiative designed to support creative and professional development within the East Auckland community. As part of UXBRIDGE’s broader commitment to fostering innovation, the programme strengthens its role as a key cultural hub by providing targeted opportunities for emerging practitioners.
The programme consists of two distinct awards: a Creative Fellowship and an Architectural Fellowship in honour of UXBRIDGE founding trustee, Malcolm Smith (ANZIA). Each is valued at $5,000 and is designed to support early-career individuals with a connection to East Auckland.
The Creative Fellowship focuses on artistic practice across disciplines (fine and applied art, performing arts and design), encouraging experimentation, research, and the development of new work. In contrast, the Malcolm Smith Architectural Fellowship is tailored specifically to emerging architects, supporting design-led inquiry and projects relevant to East Auckland.
Both fellowships emphasise not only individual growth but also public engagement. Supported projects are shared through exhibitions, presentations, or other outcomes hosted at UXBRIDGE, allowing the wider community to benefit from the work produced.
